Blessed...

...in so many ways!

But the blessing I write about today is one
that brings emotion to my eyes and
a smile to my heart.

A friendship that has stood the test of time.
Actually, the TESTS of time.

She has been a HUGE blessing in my life.
There were times when I thought
I couldn't go on, she sat beside me and listened,
handed me another tissue,
encouraged me with cards and verses from the Bible,
didn't pretend to know the answer to my "WHY?"
prayed for me because I couldn't pray,
she loved me, she gave so much.

She also shares my love for Mexican food
and Julia Roberts movies.  And shopping,
well not really, we shop sometimes but usually we end up
talking in aisles and catching up on each others lives.

Over two decades have passed,
and still she remains my best friend.

This year we celebrate our 40th birthdays,
something we have talked about.
How are we going to celebrate?

We will decide but there is no hurry
because we can enjoy going for dinner and
dreaming until we have another plan.

I say another
because we had a plan...
her dear husband had
bought her a ticket to come visit me
in Costa Rica...
...but
then everything changed.
Her dear husband of 17 years
died suddenly and unexpectedly
and every day became a
painful reminder that he was gone.

So celebrating birthdays,
even 40th birthdays,
have been a little hard
and a little emotional.

but we did celebrate and I was
honored to make her not 1 but 2 cakes.

This was the "decoy" cake.
Just so maybe we could surprise her with a party.

And so a week later we celebrated again.
And surprised her a little, but she was
putting the pieces together all along.
Her kids did an amazing job of
making sure the details were taken
care of.

And so another cake was on order.

I love you , my dear friend!
You are a picture of beauty
from the inside out.
I am extremely proud of you
and blessed beyond words
to call you friend!

Happy 40th, my friend!

I love creating cakes for gifts,

and I had fun making this
for my friend
and surprising her with it!

She is an amazing director of the
children's ministries at church.

She creates amazing "art" with
yarn that I only dream of.

She is talented in so many ways and
loves to play games and will
beat you at Banana Grams without
even trying!  =)

A well deserved cake for an amazing person!
Happy 40th Birthday, Julie!
I am blessed to call you
friend!

Sugar and shoes...

What's not to love about a lovely pair of shoes?
This weekend I had fun creating a shoe out of fondant.
A lovely lady was celebrating her
40th birthday.
and she loves shoes and wine and
so a themed cake was in order.

The cake was a moist chocolate cake with
strawberry filling and vanilla buttercream.
Then covered and decorated in fondant.

I love wearing heels,
and if I could find this shoe in leather,
I would wear it.
But this one is totally edible!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Cupcakes for the party!

Turning 40 isn't all bad!

As I am posting this I am realizing that I made two 40th birthday cakes in one week and didn't even think about it until now. This Phillies jersey was a marble cake with a fudge filling - and I heard she loved the cake and the taste too. Happy 40th Donna!

Even though my older brother lives about 5 hours away and we couldn't celebrate his birthday with him in October, I decided that Thanksgiving was close enough to his birthday to celebrate when the family was all together. The only job I ever remember my brother having was being a carpenter and now he owns his own carpentry business. Happy 40th Rodney!

Got Cake!

Here is a cute little porker that I made for a lady that collects pigs and they tell me her response was priceless! That is always good to hear! She has 4 kids, and that is what the little piggies represent. Fun cake!
