So sweet.....

Cakes aren't the only sweet thing, today as I was shopping I observed an older couple. The lady had drop a pen and her sweet husband picked it up for her, of course, that's expected. But what happened next is what brought tears to my eyes and all that happened is she said "Thank you". I know you are thinking of course she did, but what I have observed lately is that we are so polite to complete strangers and those closest to us who we love the most get our impatient and impolite response. I didn't get a chance to tell them how their kindness to each other, touched me. And challenged me!
Merry Christmas to you and yours, and may the real reason we celebrate fill your lives with peace and joy the whole year thru.

One week I made two 16th birthday party cakes! Personally the girlie pink one is my favorite, but the spongebob one was the easiest!
Yesterday I was thinking about the goodness of God in my life and how he took care of getting me a job, BEFORE I even knew I needed a job.

So back in May for my daughters birthday, I decided to make a cake using fondant. I had never worked with fondant and so this was just a trial and I thought maybe I could figure it out. Well she was delighted with it and tickled pink to say the least. Of course I saw the imperfections and wanted to see if I could improve it. So friends that don't normally get cakes from me were getting birthday cakes 'cause I needed to practice. Here I am a half year later and I am making cakes for people I don't even know.

My very first fondant cake.

Had you told me that someday I would be a cake decorator - I would have laughed at you. To be honest I still don't know how to make an icing rose, but fondant is like play dough and the possibilites are as far as your imagination will take you.

Getting back to the goodness of God. We are going on a mission trip to Panama in Feb. and need to raise the funds to go and God is using cakes to raise money for our trip!! I'm just blown away at his greatness and how he takes care of his children. He knows me inside and out and knows that I always liked to bake and now I'm baking to raise money for a mission trip!!

But just yesterday I thought about the cake that I needed to make today and that it was the last one that I had an order for and that maybe my gig was up. Within minutes of thinking that a lady called and ask me to make a cake for her daughters birthday. And then as I am making the cake today, I get an email with another order for a cake. That is God taking care of His daughter. And I know that only with Him can I manage to get it all done and I know He will provide.

I am overwheled by God's provision - not only in giving me cake orders, but also in gifting me with this talent.

Wow - talk about giving you more than you could ask or think!! He is faithful!!

Purse cake

The journey to this..............

I started out with a half sheet cake and cut it into thirds. Stacking it with raspberry filling in between the layers and chocolate buttercream around the edge.

After frosting it, I rolled out fondant and covered each side of the cake. The top (red fondant) I rolled out and then cut to fit the top. I used a paper towel to make a template.

Then I just cut out animal print shapes and covered the cake. I had no pattern, just cut and fit.

Then I added details, like the strap across the top, the handle and the "change purse"

"

This what the cut cake looked like. I did add 2 layers of yellow cake to make it taller. I also added to dowels down the middle to help it stay standing. The handle did not make it to the party in one piece. =( But the cake was tasty and we had fun eating it.

The roses are made out of modeling chocolate.
